The Wimbledon Championship: Some Transport Tips

The Wimbledon Championship is the oldest tennis tournament in the world. It is widely considered the most prestigious and has been held in London every summer since 1877.

The Wimbledon Championship is the only major tennis tournament that is still played on the game's original surface – grass. The tournament usually takes place over two weeks in late June and early July. This year, it will be held from June 24 to July 7.

The tournament is held at The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Church Road, Wimbledon, London SW19 5AE.

Wimbledon is such a huge event – possibly the largest and most prominent summer event in the city. Because of the influx of tourists to London, traffic congestion is almost inevitable. In order to help prevent it, spectators are strongly encouraged to use public transportation whenever possible.

To assist in the public transport initiative for the whole duration of Wimbledon, the Transport for London website has provided a comprehensive journey planner for traveling to and from the All England Lawn and Tennis Croquet Club by train, tube or bus.

The Transport for London website offers a comprehensive journey planner for travelling to and from Wimbledon Championship by train, tube, or bus.

TUBE: This is the easiest way to get to the venue. You can take the westbound District Line (the green line). The closest tube stations are Southfields (15 minutes) and Wimbledon (20 minutes). Then, at Southfields or Wimbledon Stations, there will be London General shuttle bus services direct to The Championship. Buses depart about every five minutes.

TRAIN: There is a regular train service from London Waterloo Station to Wimbledon Station where you can board the connecting London General shuttle bus service direct to the grounds. Buses depart about every five minutes.

To make the most of this unique event make sure you book one of our Waterloo Serviced Apartments, that are just a five minute walk from Waterloo Station.

We are also offering a special discount to all our clients who decide to stay with us during the Wimbledon tournament. We will offer a 10% discount on your bill applicable to all of Boutique London Lets’ serviced apartments all over London.
